Set the date range
Every number on your Dashboard is a number over a period, and there are two places that period can come from: the board, and the tile itself. This page explains both, and which one wins when they disagree. About 5 minutes.
Before you start
- The board period is part of the saved board. Changing it makes the board unsaved, and only the workspace owner can publish it with Save as default.
- On landing, every tile shows its own range. A fresh board can legitimately show the funnel over the last 90 days while the stat beside it counts this month. That is not a bug.
The board period
The period picker sits in the control row above the board. Its list, in order:
Today · Last 7 days · Last 30 days · Last 90 days · This week · This month · Last month · This year · All time · the quarters that have already begun this year · Custom range…
Quarters only appear once they have started — in April the list stops at Q2.
- The board starts on This month on a workspace that has never saved a different one.
- Quarters are this calendar year. Q1 is January to March, Q2 April to June, Q3 July to September, Q4 October to December. Only the quarters that have already begun are in the list, so you cannot pick a quarter that has not happened.
- All time means no cut-off at all.
Custom range
Pick Custom range… and two date boxes appear beside the picker, From date and To date, with the word to between them.
Both boxes have to be filled before the range does anything.
Until you have set both dates, no time limit is applied — the tiles run over everything rather than showing an error, so a half-filled range looks as though it is being ignored — and it is. Fill in the second box and the numbers change. Each box also stops you choosing a From later than your To, or the other way round.
A tile’s own date range
Any tile can carry its own window, which it uses instead of the board period. It is set in the dialog that builds or edits that tile, under Time range — never on the tile itself. To open that dialog, click the tile to select it, then press Edit — the pencil — in the small toolbar over its top-left corner.
| Tile | Where its Time range lives |
|---|---|
| A stat tile, or one you built | Add metric / Edit metric — the builder |
| The funnel, the leaderboard, the assignment table, a campaign tile | Edit tile |
The first row, Global (board period), is how you hand the tile back to the board.
The control is a chip. It reads Global while the tile has no window of its own, or the window’s name once it does — Q2, Custom, Last 30 days. When it has its own window the chip changes colour, so you can tell at a glance which tiles are following the board and which are not. The first row of its menu is Global (board period); choosing Custom range… keeps the menu open and reveals From and To boxes inside it.
Campaign tiles have no range of their own. All four always follow the board period, whatever you do elsewhere.
Which range wins
The app states the rule in one sentence, in both dialogs:
This tile’s default range (“Global” follows the board period). Changing the board’s global period overrides every tile; a range set here overrides only this tile.
In practice, in the order you meet it:
- When the page loads, every tile uses its own range, or the board period if it does not have one.
- The moment you change the board period, it takes over every tile — including the ones with a range of their own.
- If you then set one tile’s range, that tile breaks free and goes back to its own window. Every other tile carries on following the board.
- Change the board period again and step 3 is undone. Every tile follows the board once more.
- None of this survives a reload. Refresh the page, or press Reset, and you are back at step 1 with every tile on its own range.
The short version: the last thing you changed wins, for as wide a scope as you changed it. A board change is broad, a tile change is narrow, and a reload forgets both.
Day, Week or Month
A Day · Week · Month control appears in the control row only when a tile on the board needs it — in practice, only when you have a campaign tile. It sets the size of the time buckets those tiles draw.
Left alone, it shows the bucket size that fits the period:
| Board period | Bucket |
|---|---|
| Today, Last 7 days, This week, Last 30 days, This month, Last month | Day |
| Last 90 days, and any quarter | Week |
| This year, All time | Month |
| A custom range up to 45 days | Day |
| A custom range up to 180 days | Week |
| A custom range longer than that | Month |
A Leads over time chart does not follow this control. A line chart owns its own bucket size, set in the builder under Over time, and keeps it whatever the board says.
What gets saved with the board
| Setting | Saved with the board? |
|---|---|
| The board period | Yes |
| The custom From and To dates | Yes |
| Day / Week / Month | Yes |
| The lead source filter | Yes |
| A tile’s own Time range | Yes, as part of that tile |
| The member chip | No — it is a personal lens and resets every load |
Because the period and the filters are saved, changing any of them makes the board unsaved and brings up Reset and Save as default, exactly as moving a tile does. Changing the member chip never does.
If something goes wrong
| What you see | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Your custom range seems to be ignored | Only one of From date and To date is filled in, so no limit is applied at all | Fill in both |
| The quarter you want is not in the list | Only quarters that have already begun this year are offered | Use Custom range… for a quarter of a past year |
| All time is drawn in monthly buckets when you wanted weeks | All time deliberately uses months, so a long history fits in one run | Pick Last 90 days, a quarter, or a custom range of 180 days or less — those are the windows that bucket by week |
| Partial — only the earliest points are shown. Narrow the date range. | The chart came back with more time buckets than one run carries | Shorten the period, or move to a bigger bucket |
| Tile numbers stopped agreeing with the board period | You set one tile’s own Time range after changing the board period, so that tile has broken free | Set that tile’s chip back to Global (board period). A reload will not do it — after a reload every tile goes back to its own range |
| A source filter you cleared comes back after a reload | The filter is part of the saved board, and a reload re-applies the saved one | Clear it, then have the workspace owner press Save as default. Until that happens it returns on every full page load |
| Every tile went back to its own range on its own | You reloaded, or pressed Reset — both clear the board-period override | Set the board period again |
